This trial was set up to evaluate the efficacy of the lipopeptide surfactin and the mixture surfactin + mycosubtilin against Phytophthora Porri in leek (Allium porrum / ALLPO). In addition to the lipopeptides, chemical references and the biological product Mycocell (based on Saccharomyces cerevisiae) were integrated in the trial.

The applications were performed by means of a backpack sprayer, a spray volume of 400l/ha and an application pressure between 3.5 and 4.1 bar.

The lipopeptides were dissolved in a 0.1% DMSO solution and Addit (rape seed oil) was added. The lipopeptides were applied 6 times, with an interval of 14 days. The first treatments were applied preventative. The chemical reference products were applied 4 times with an interval of approximately 21 days.

The pressure of white tip disease in this trial was high. Figures showed that all chemical references reduced white tip disease and were effective in controlling white tip disease which confirms earlier experience with these products. Only the last assessment on 8/01/2013 confirmed this statistically.
Plants treated with lipopeptides were not assessed on this date. The infestation by Phytophthora Porri in these objects was similar or worse as the untreated object.

Based on the figures 0,6 kg/ha Tanos and 1.6 l/ha Infinito provided the best protection against white tip disease, followed closely by 2 l/ha Folio Gold. 4 kg/ha Mycocell reduced infestation by phytophthora porri slightly.

Objects treated with the lipopeptide surfactin or the mixture surfactin + mycosubtilin did not reduce white tip disease.

On none of the assessment moments any form of phytotoxicity was observed.

Figures showed that the objects treated with lipopeptides had a slightly more severe infestation than the untreated object and the check with DMSO. It is possible that lipopeptides have a harmful effect on the wax layer of the leeks, but this possible effect was not observed visually.
