This trial has been set up to evaluate the efficacy of lipopeptides produced by Bacillus subtilis against powdery mildew (Erysiphe cichoracearum) in courgette. In addition to the lipopetides a chemical reference and two biological products based on seaweed extracts were integrated in the trial.

The trial was set up at a research field in Kruishoutem, Belgium, in 3 parallels in an randomized block design. The plot area was 10.5 m² and the variety used was Eva (Clause). This variety is susceptible to powdery mildew. The lipopeptides and the biological products were applied 5 times, each time with an interval of 7 days. The first treatments were applied preventative. The chemical reference was applied 4 times.

The applications were performed by means of a backpack sprayer, a spray volume of 400l/ha and an application pressure between 3.4 and 4 bar.

The reference object, 0.125 kg/ha Flint 50 WG (50% trifloxystrobin) reduced powdery mildew significantly.

In the objects where treatments were performed with the biological products a limited reduction of powdery mildew was observed, but this reduction was not significantly different with the untreated.

The objects where treatments were performed with lipopeptides had no reduction of powdery mildew and seem not to be effective for the control of powdery mildew in courgette.

On none of the assessments phytotoxic symptoms were observed.
