This trial has been set up to evaluate the selectivity of different herbicide schemes for the control of weeds in onions (Allium cepa / ALLCE). The different herbicides that were tested in the schemes were PM12/018, PM06/020, PM12/019 and PM09/005. For each herbicide tested in this trial a scheme was made with a single and a double dose rate.
The trial was set up at a research field in Kruishoutem, Belgium, in 4 parallels in a randomized block design. The plot area was 12.25 m² and the variety used was Centro (Hazera Seeds). The applications were performed by means of a backpack sprayer, a spray volume of 500 l/ha and an application pressure between 3 and 4.2 bar. The trial was weeded frequently.
Selectivity assessments in the field were performed at different timings and at the end of the cultivation, the yield and grading of the onions was determined. On the field no phytotoxic symptoms were observed in any of the objects. At harvest there was no adverse effect of the application schemes on the yield and grading of the onions. The applications schemes based on PM12/018, PM06/020, PM12/019 and PM09/005, tested at single and double dose rate, are selective for onios.
